Listen, His seed also will I make to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven. This is Christ, isnt it? Why should I if I am to be scourged and mocked and all these things that are listed of those heroes in the Old Testament, why should I take it? Even Pharaoh, the mightiest king on earth at that time, recognized Jacob as a man of God. It was a terrible sin when Aaron led the Israelites into idol worship (Ex 32:1-6), but God did not call for Aarons death. Right? See? Ive got a verse here; I dont know what the reference is; it says this. He got it all. He works hard at disciplining those children, because he cares what they become. Some kids that dont have a father to spank them. He trains and teaches His children so that they may bring honor to His name. He learned two things: who God was and who he was. And now you do the most dreadful of things. Our Heavenly Father, the Father of spirits "disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness." This should result in our desiring to be subject to Him. But this is not so with Gods children, as He desires greater blessings for us, both in time and eternity. The discipline of my children proves they are my children, and I love them. God tells us in His Word how we are to receive His chastening. David knew what it was to have God's chastening hand upon him. Samson slept with prostitutes (Judg 16:1-4), and though he was disciplined, the Lord did not kill him. Israelites, living under the Mosaic Law were promised physical blessings if they obeyed the Lords directives (Deut 28:1-14), and physical curses if they disobeyed (Deut 28:15-68). Sometimes Gods chastening is seen in His rebukes from the Word or from circumstances. Though used by God for his purposes, the ungodly are still evil. Number two, prevention. He became sympathetic to others. It is written, You have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by Him; 6 for those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives (Heb 12:5-6). Proverbs 13:24, He that spareth his rod hateth his son. Do you want to know how you can tell somebody who loves his children? It says notice it there in verse 10, They did it for a days, only till we grew a certain age, and after their own pleasure. That phrase is misleading, in the Authorized Version. And those slain by the Lord will be many. As many as I love I rebuke and discipline. Dont you like that? The book of Job says that the man Job had not done anything wrong. You see, this gives us a whole different concept of God, doesnt it? Job 5, verse 17, Behold, happy listen to this; this is terrific happy is the man whom God correcteth isnt that good? 1 Corinthians 12 states we are . So, dont despise the chastening. (The something else may be the result of living in a fallen world or an attack from Satan.) It means that we do not live to ourselves; we influence others. And, oh, how many Christians have found, when they really looked into the Word and into their afflictions, that it was God speaking. It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?" An assurance that He loves you no matter what hits you. Now, you look back on your life, how many afterwards have there been? Would you like to just go down the tubes with no correction? Dont ever question the love of God, beloved. He learned about caring for others. Show me. And when you learn your lessons, you grow. A father shows his love for his son by chastening him. You know, some of the times I suppose we could punish our children in a wiser fashion that we do and bring about a better result. Look at the persecution and the trial and the affliction, and the suffering that youve gone through. Is there sin in your life thats obviously apparent for which God is correcting you? Thats right.
